What is Usability Testing, and Why Do We Need to Do It?

Discover exactly why your visitors aren't buying your products or services, why they’re not signing-up for your newsletter, and why they're not calling your sales teams...

Whether you want visitors to your website to pick up the phone immediately to your sales teams, or to buy products through your site's store, it's vital to find out exactly what's stopping them from doing what you need them to do when they're browsing your site.

Through methodical Usability Testing, we find out what your website's 'blocks' are.  You'll almost always be surprised at the results of your usability tests. Web design teams typically assume a professionally-designed, clearly laid-out website is what best sells their company and its products. But this is virtually never enough.

If you're not investing in usability testing, you'll almost certainly miss out on thousands and thousands of potential revenue over time.  (Keep in mind that most people don't have the time or patience to wait for a website to 'give them what they're looking for'.  You might think your site looks great and is simple to navigate, but if it doesn't work for your visitors, they'll just abandon it in a jiffy and take their interest elsewhere.)

Usability testing gives us the opportunity to record other people using your website for the first time in an unbiased way, revealing any specific problems they encounter with your website first-hand.

Removing blockages discovered through usability testing typically results in large gains in your conversion rates, and therefore increased profit on an ongoing basis.

What is Remote Usability Testing, and What are its Benefits?

Remote usability testing is similar to conventional usability testing, except that participants do not come to a lab or studio; instead, each participant carries out the test/s from their home environment or place of work. As such, I ask participants to attempt to complete a prescribed set of tasks / actions on your website, and record their behaviour and actions using screen-recording technology.

As less resources are required with remote usability testing (time and budget), remote usability testing can be more frequently integrated into your company work-flow with far less disruption, providing your users with a much improved overall user experience on an ongoing basis.

What You Get

  • Pre-Tests: You fill out a survey for me.  Your answers to my questions help me learn more about your company, your website, and the goals you need to achieve.
  • Pre-Tests: A phone consultation with me before testing is conducted, to discuss the information you provided in the survey and answer any questions you may have at this point.
  • Testing with 5 different subjects, selected from a group of test-volunteers. (You can optionally select for test users based on gender, age, household income and proficiency with the web.)
  • Post-Tests: A video of each of the 5 usability tests, clearly showing each test subject's computer screen as he /she completes (or tries to complete) the tasks assigned.
  • A written summary of the usability tests carried out, highlighting the issues and 'blocks' that have been uncovered, along with specific recommendations on how to fix each problem.
  • A one hour post-test consultation on the phone with me, to discuss the report and our findings, and to clearly define the next steps and recommended actions going forwards.
